Street Talk – Sadler Street, Mowbray

October 2, 2020 | MowbrayStreet & Suburb HistoryStreet Talk

Samuel Charles Sadler and Harry Conway owned 38 acres of land in this area of the Mowbray Hill and subdivided part of it in 1882.

Sadler was a merchant and lived in the large house on the corner of Sadler Street and Invermay Road but subsequently moved to Sydney.

His brother, Robert James Sadler, was Mayor of Launceston in 1897 and Member of the House of Assembly for over 20 years. Robert was also honoured with a Sadler Street, in East Launceston, which was later renamed Monds Street to avoid duplication.
