Jutland is the peninsula which comprises the continental portion of Denmark. Off here in May 1916 was fought the biggest naval battle of World War 1 in which 149 British vessels under Admirals Jellico and Beatty met 100 German ships under Von Scheer.

The engagement was not decisive, Britain losing 14 and Germany 11 ships, but the German fleet returned to its base and did not again challenge the British fleet in any further serious engagement.
