Named by Mr George Bridgborn in honour of his daughter (later Mrs Evelyn Winifred Waldron) who, when she was about 4 years old, used to talk to a Chinese gardener who worked nearby.
The gardener was very impressed by this friendly and pretty little girl and would say to her “when you grow up I will take you to my country and make you the Queen of all China”.
As a result, the family called her “Queenie” and the name persisted within the family. Accordingly, when the father named this street after her, it became Queen Street.
