Edward Robert Bulwer Lytton (1831-1891) was a poet, diplomatist and statesman.

His father was also a great poet and man of letters, Lord Lytton.

He led a career practising diplomacy in all the great capitals of Europe before succeeding to his father’s title in 1873. Lord Lytton was Viceroy of India, created an Earl and made Ambassador to France. Much of his work including novels, poems and translations was published under the pseudonym “Owen Meredith”.
